Brown's Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity is thrilled to announce that Professor Tayla von Ash has been awarded an NIH R01 grant of $3.5 million over the course of five years for her project “Leveraging youth sports practices to increase physical activity among racial and ethnic minority mothers." This groundbreaking research aims to explore how youth sports environments can serve as a gateway to promote physical activity among under-resourced mothers, addressing key disparities in maternal health and well-being.
Additionally, Professor von Ash's K01 grant application, titled “Design, implementation, and evaluation of a technology-based sleep parenting intervention for pregnant Hispanic women: a pilot study,” was selected for funding. However von Ash made the strategic decision to decline the K01 award to focus her efforts on the larger R01 project.
In June, Professor von Ash also received a pilot award from the Legorreta Cancer Center for her project “Mixed methods research to inform the adaptation of a technology-based physical activity promotion intervention to better meet the needs of Latina mothers.” This work further reflects her commitment to addressing health inequities through culturally tailored, evidence-based interventions.
We congratulate Professor von Ash on these exceptional achievements and look forward to the positive impact her research will have on maternal health, physical activity and health equity.
